Not a lot so as to add about Chichibu, luminous malt when it is au naturel (BB, refill), generally somewhat whacky (and pointless) when saved or aromatized in unlikely casks… However by no means, ever boring. Grand Cru of Japan, for certain.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to determine that that is the primary ever Chichibu 10 years previous. For those who bear in mind that previous whisky saying that used to go like ‘no ten no deal’, it might truly be the primary actual ‘Chichibu’. Properly, I imply, I do know what I am attempting to say… Color: gold. Nostril: sound, you drums! Ring out, you trumpets! For it’s a pure Chichibu, with solely somewhat vanilla, custard and crushed banana coating a really pure ‘previous eau-de-vie de barley’. What we like, even when, or maybe as a result of it isn’t spectacular in any respect. Pretty breads and lemon curd. With water: pancakes, pita, damaged branches, grist. Mouth (neat): full-textured, creamy, beginning with extra lemon curd, grapefruit liqueur, uncooked barley, then we discover maize bread and certainly bananas. Very compact and fairly excellent. With water: somewhat citrus and a contact of eucalyptus, no different modifications. Not that we wanted any. End: medium, clear, candy and bready. A tad hoppy, maybe. Feedback: I’d suppose some nice people would discover it somewhat light and even one-dimensional, nicely in my e book and in these very instances, that is a transparent asset. A pure, easy and clear expression of unpeated Chichibu!

I could not spot the power on the bottle however there may be Large Ben so that is nicely London (it was Large Ben or Boris, so that they selected properly). I shall amend as quickly as extra knowledge attain me (now up to date, thanks Werry). Color: gold. Nostril: deeper, extra profound, with extra herbs, camphor, eucalyptus, somewhat rubber smoke (burning tyres), a implausible leafiness (eucalyptus certainly), a contact pf Barbour grease and wee whiffs of recent electronics. Yeah, in case you like, new iPhone. With water: rubberwood, teak oil, graphite, pencil, this grist that we love a lot… Mouth (neat): some tight peat and a few even tighter lemons and grapefruits. Completely blade-y, millimetric, excellent. With water: woo-hoo! Pure lime juice with just a few drops of seawater. Ite Missa est. End: lengthy, chiselled, ultra-pure, blade-y. Sends shivers down your backbone, as solely the best dry chenins blancs would do. A tiny concept of some coconut within the aftertaste. Feedback: immaculate and completely simple. Grand peaty Chichibu.

That is fairly difficult, as this little Chichibu was first matured in Kentucky from 2007 to 2014 (why?) then at Chichibu’s in Japan, between 2014 and 2021. Maintain on, is it truly a Chichibu? Is it not a Transworld bourbon? Let’s examine that… Color: deep gold. Nostril: uh. Varnish, acetone, pancake sauce, vanillin and coconut water, that is not very Chichibu to say the least. With water: oak oils, new plywood. Mouth (neat): bourbon. Not a nasty one, thoughts you. Fairly wealthy, varnishy, with some nougat and a few sort of concentrated corn syrup. A bit too candy and syrupy for me. With water: good, candy, richer, with oranges, a ryeness, maple syrup. End: medium, identical, candy, syrupy. Not sickly candy although. Feedback: I could have missed one thing right here. Is it a ‘Chichibu’ solely as a result of it partly aged at Chichibu? An excellent drop nonetheless, however I wasn’t fairly prepared for some bourbon. I believe I will distil the most affordable apples I will discover after which ship the barrel to Brora Distillery. And presto, some Brora! (no?) Severely, I am certain I’ve missed one thing right here, it is a strong bourbon.
